In Memory of Jenny Santos:
As many know, in February 2017 we lost our coach, Jenny Santos, in a tragic accident. So that year we started the tradition to honor her memory with a Marathon Row.
Fundraiser:
To honor Jenny we purchase a brand new double. Thanks to many initial donors, the new "Jenny Santos" arrived on April 22, 2017. But we need to continue raising the funds to pay for the boat completely. The Marathon Row is intended to help raise a portion. Participants are encouraged to raise a minimum of $100. In return, you will receive a t-shirt, and can be part of this exciting row.
The Route:
We will depart from Nereid Boat Club in Rutherford, NJ. The Passaic River will lead us past Lyndhurst, Nutley, North Arlington, Belleville, Kearny, Newark, Harrison, into Newark Bay. Rowing around Kearny Point we will enter the Hackensack River past Jersey City. In Secaucus, at Laurel Hill County Park we will have a one-hour lunch break. Then we will continue through the Meadowlands past North Bergen, Carlstadt, Moonachie, Little Ferry, Ridgefield Park, and Bogota. Our final destination will be Foschini Park in Hackensack. The total distance is 27 miles (43.5 km).
Requirements:
Participants must be good rowers with some stamina. Entry Fees are $100 for adults and $75 for youth. Participants are also encouraged to raise additional funds for their respective rowing organizations. All participants need to be able to swim.
